Twenty-One Hate Groups File Briefs in Bostic v. Rainey

While gay rights activists from around Virginia traveled to Richmond for the Commonwealth Dinner - which also marked Equality Virginia's 25th anniversary - twenty-one anti-gay groups filed amicus briefs in Bostic v. Rainey which is now before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  Equality Files has all the briefs here for those who want to view a study in hate, lies and batshitery.  As Joe Jervis notes, these briefs repeat the same defenses that have lost across the board to date at the district court level and which failed at the U.S. Supreme Court in United States v. Windsor in the context of Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  The irony with such briefs is that often they are so deranged and dripping with anti-gay animus that they likely sway the reviewing courts to rule for gay rights as opposed to the "godly folk."   Here's Joe Jervis' entertaining review of the filings:

Twenty-one amicus briefs were filed yesterday with the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in defense of Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage. The briefs were filed on behalf of the usual axis of evil: the Concernstipated [Concerned] Women, the Liberty Counsel, Phyllis Schlafy's Eagle Forum, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Mormon Church, the Southern Baptists Convention, the Heritage Foundation, the Virginia Catholic Conference, David Barton's WallBuilders, the Family Research Council, the North Carolina Values Coalition, and the (completely fake) American College of Pediatrics. Also filing briefs are the states of West Virginia and Indiana.

Individuals filing briefs include former NOM chairman Robert George and nutbag homocon Voldemort horcrux Robert Oscar Lopez, who claims that authorities are too afraid of the gay mafia to investigate reports of molestation by gay parents.

Another of the individual filings is from some crackpot named David Boyle who argues, among other deranged claims, that gay people should not be allowed to marry because there was this one time when a lesbian died from "vaginal fisting." Seriously. Equality Case Files has posted all of the briefs at the first link. There's surely nothing worth worrying about in any of them since these are pretty much all the same dirtbags who have lost everywhere else. But if you want to amuse yourself, dig into the briefs and recap what you find in the comments.

Some of Joe's readers summarized the groups submitting these briefs well.  Here are two favorites:
They are insane. Truly insane, and live in some delusional fantasy world... And they are allowed in politics?

What we're seeing now is our enemies shrieking in pain and fear. Sit back and enjoy the show. They are getting crazier and crazier. As someone has pointed out above, they are now working full time for us, revealing in these briefs, the irrational animus at the base of their opposition. Nor can it escape notice that all but one (the Heritage Foundation) of these amicii are religious groups. This alone should send up red flags about Church/State interference.
