Mike Huckabee Threatens GOP on Marriage Equality

The cases before the U.S. Supreme Court today and tomorrow combined with a number of Republicans switching sides on the issue of gay marriage has the Christofascists in a serious funk.  They apparently see gay marriage becoming a reality nationwide at some point despite their anti-gay jihad - even 64% of Southern Baptists expect gay marriage to eventually be nationwide - and they are lashing out and increasingly threatening the GOP that they will walk away if the GOP shifts on marriage equality.  We've already seen hate group leader Tony Perkins making this threat.  Now, Mike Huckabee - who has said on Morning Joe once that he'd like to see the U.S. Constitution supplanted by the Bible - is echoing the threat:

Mike Huckabee is asked by Newsmax if he thinks the GOP will pivot to support marriage equality:

“They might. And if they do, they’re going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk. And it’s not because there’s an anti-homosexual mood, and nobody’s homophobic that I know of, but many of us, and I consider myself included, base our standards not on the latest Washington Post poll, but on an objective standard, not a subjective standard. I have great sympathy and extraordinary admiration for Sen. Portman. I consider him a friend and I value his work in the Senate and think he’s a great person. The mistake is that we sometimes base our public policy decisions on how we feel, how we think, maybe even some personal experiences, and we don’t regard a lot of these issues from the standpoint of an objective standard."

What's most laughable is Huckabee's claim that evangelicals base their position on objective standards.  If there is any group that denies objective reality more than evangelical Christians it would hard to identify it.  The only ones perhaps equally deranged are Islamic fundamentalists - hardly a group Huckabee would want to be equated with.   Equally laughable is Huckabee's criticism of those who base policy decisions on feelings.  That's all the Christofascists do - they base their decisions on a fear of modernity, a fear of thinking for themselves, and a fear of anyone who is not an white evangelical Christian.  It is amazing how Huckabee and others of his ilk always seem to transfer their own motivations and behavior to others and never bother to take a good look in the mirror at themselves.
